Dr. Manoj C. Sindagi entered the world of competitive photography in 1998 by taking part in the national level photography salons. In the very first year of his participation, he bagged the 'Best Salon Participant' and 'Best Landscape' award at the YPS Salon of Photography at Bangalore. This was just a begining in his winning awards and accolades.
Dr. Sindagi's pictures have won him more than 400 acceptances and in excess of 100 awards and certificates of merit in many national and international photography competitions and salons.
Here are a few major awards that are to his credit:
In 1999, Dr. Sindagi's picture of a Magpie Robin bagged him the "Amateur Photographer of the Year" award from Better Photography magazine. In the ensuing Salons and Competitions, The string of awards he bagged are too numerous to be written on these pages. His excellent performance in the photography salons made the Federation of Indian Photography (FIP) to rate Dr. Sindagi as the Best Nature Photographer for the year 2000.
In 2002, Dr. Sindagi's picture of three Bonnet Macaques won a distinction in the prestigious BG Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition organized by the BBC wildlife magazine and the Natural History Museum, London. This international competition attracts entries by the thousands and from over 60 countries.
In 2003, his picture of a Common Jezebel won him the "Top Macro" award at the 12th Nature Slide Biennial organised by International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) at Adelaide, Australia.
From 2003 onwards, Dr. Sindagi stopped participating in the national level salons, to give youngsters and budding photographers better opprtunities.
In 2004, Dr. Sindagi's picture of a Green Bee-eater in Flight with an insect caught in it's beak, got him the prestigious title of 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' in the photography competition organised by the Sanctuary Asia magazine. In the same competition, two of his other pictures also were highly commended.
In 2005, the same picture got him an award in the Wildlife photography competition organised by Better Photography Magazine.
Dr. Sindagi's patience and perseverence show in the unique photographs clicked by him. These qualities paid off in 2006. His picture of the Indian Pond Terrapins basking in the evening glow, got him rich dividends. This picture won him a 'Highly Commended' award in the prestigious Shell Wildlife Photograher of the Year competition, organised by the BBC magazine and the Natural History Museum, London.
Winning seems to have become a habit for Dr. Sindagi. In the same year, that picture of the Pond Terrapins also won him the 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2006', title from Sanctaury Asia. To be named 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' twice in three years is indeed a very rare achievement!
Today, Dr. Sindagi imparts his winning ways to budding and amateur photographers through his workshops.
